Our team is based at the University of British Columbia Okanagan campus in Kelowna, BC. We respectfully acknowledge the Syilx Okanagan Nation and their peoples, in whose traditional, ancestral, unceded territory UBCO Okanagan is situated..

Our Aim

To provide information and resources for parents and caregivers of autistic children and youth in British Columbia to support their children’s participation in safe, inclusive, and active sport and recreational activities.

Our Team

Dr. Lise Olsen

Dr. Lise Olsen is an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing at UBC Okanagan. She has worked as an RN in a variety of clinical settings. Dr. Olsen’s research focuses on child and family health promotion including inclusive and safe recreation for families of autistic children.

Jade Campbell

Jade Campbell is a community health RN and Master of Nursing student at UBCO. As a Research Assistant, she contributed to the Spark Kid website content. Her master’s thesis focuses on creating inclusive, accessible environments for neurodiverse individuals, particularly exploring family experiences with emergency department care in rural areas.

Ali Rashid Bawumia

Ali Rashid Bawumia is a Master of Nursing student and Graduate Research Assistant at UBCO School of Nursing. Originally from Ghana, he has contributed to and edited content for the Spark Kids website. His research focuses on child and family health promotion, with an emphasis on inclusive recreation, safety, and injury prevention for children with neurodevelopmental disabilities
